d i a n o v e n t a s e t e (Day 97)

Day 97.
Came home from work. Picked up my daughter, put her to sleep. Still have to prepare some stuff for classes that I teach tomorrow.

Some flash experimentation here.

Nevertheless I can say that what I imagined was NOT what happened, but its not so worrisome, at least I tried.

by the way, I got the shirt from a friend who went to the Bahamas. I, myself, have never been there.

Day 95.
Teresina, Brazil
Standing at a roundabout taking pictures of cars passing by.
In the background is one of our two malls which is currently the smallest mall in ALL of Brazil. But have no fear. When the owner heard this, he plans an expansion with a grand opening that featured none other than a Beatles Cover Band. The very same cover band I photographed 2 or 3 weeks before.

day94

day94, originally uploaded by J.Lee.Photo.

I planned a kissing photo today. I think the biggest thing about this 365 is that its very tiring mentally. I found that if I don't start off the day thinking about my general "plan", then I usually try to pull something out of my hat, which is usually a low quality concept.

I liked this and I played with a lot of different backgrounds. After several things that my girlfriend didn't like, I settled on something less flashy, and it gives a more studio fill. The real background is just a plain white wall that exists in my soon-to-be living room.

I guess If I ever buy my own living room furniture, I'll be flat out-of-luck.

I love that space.

The essence of me.

The essence of me., originally uploaded by J.Lee.Photo.

ok.
This is the new day 92.
I was playing around with the others and I felt out of inspiration, until I opened up this bad boy and began enjoying what was going on with it.

I removed the other, because i knew i could do better.
I didnt realize it would be today, i ran across this other photo which i took while playing around, and I thought I could really get some interesting photoshop work done..

Day 92.
Okay, so call me a medical recommendation badboy. I know what the doctors say. I do it anyway.

There are very few things so satisfying as cleaning out your ears with a Q-tip.

Many have called it Eargasm.

So, that's where we end for day 92.

The milestone of 100 is coming up.

I'm excited.

so i took the picture on monday.
went out with my girlfriend for our 1 year anniversary, and the next day, i deleted the picture by accident. so on wednesday, i went to the same place and took the shot again.

so this is Monday's shot that was taken on wednesday.

I'm calling oops.

But this food is brazilian "salgados"...
if you speak portuguese, you know what that means. It's a cultural snack that they eat all the time..these little "pastries" are filled with meats and cheeses from chicken to beef and hot dogs...

everyday, I try to take a meaningful or thoughtful shot.
my razorback hat shot wasn't so meaningful..just celebratory...

anyway..here's my "meaningful" shot that I also included in the 365 for today..so, i guess its going to be a 366..

I didn't see the game.
Here in Brazil, I work all day on Saturdays and when I got home, I found out my mighty Hogs had pulled off a victory in Georgia.

Can this year be special for the Hogs? I hope so.

At least for me in Brazil, it would be amazing!

day 84 of 365.
I was walking by an empty field...and I wondered what was on the other side of that field.

So I went there and found this beautiful image of the river. It was wonderful. I was a bit too close to the river for a decent pano, because the bottom got cut off.

But I still like it.

don't give up...

don't give up..., originally uploaded by J.Lee.Photo.

The idea behind this shot is not giving up a diet, a project or anything.
While the measuring tape represents giving up a diet, it can encompass anything.

day 82 of 365. I calculated that percentage. That's like 22% of the project. I think this project has helped me grow and become a better photographer, but I'm not always sure. Everyday, I force myself to do something different, or interesting.

Some may agree with what I find interesting and others may not. For sure, I have quit really caring. Its like if someone doesn't like day such and such, then forget about it. The project must go on.

the things these hands have done..

day 81 of 365.
today is one of those days that i'm chalking up this picture as one of the "meh" pictures.

ok. so there can't be 365 brilliant pieces of work

new profile shot

new profile shot, originally uploaded by J.Lee.Photo.

day 79 of 365.
This began as a composite idea. I was just going to do a self-portrait and a moving street scene (taken while my girlfriend was driving).

But I really liked the results. So I guess I'm going to make this my new profile shot!

d a y s e v e n t y e i g h t c o m p o s i t e

Day 78 of 365.
Like I mention every saturday.
My saturday photos are usually terrible and unplanned.

Today, I put my daughter to sleep after a long day of teaching and played around with a flashlight, my wireless remote, and the on-camera flash to create something for day 78.

Everything in this image is real photograph. From the 78 which I hand wrote with the flashlight and any lighting that may or may not appear to be real.

Deep thinking...

Deep thinking..., originally uploaded by J.Lee.Photo.

day 76 of 365.
began as a project to focus on her feet.
but it turned into something better.

The location is right outside my apartment building. In fact, I believe that one of the windows in the background is my bathroom window. That is, if its the third floor. I don't remember from that angle.

The lighting is nice with a bounce flash and a 1.8 aperture..and a rather slow shutter speed, the flight "freezes" the image, so I can go pretty much as slow as I want without being ridiculous.

This allows me to have better illuminated images and it requires less flash power...and less battery usage.

we are all treehuggers at some point...

this was a fun day with my daughter.
Today is brazilian independence day, so most of the country has the day off. I took my daughter for a walk around the block to take pictures of her playing in and on the trees.

She kept asking for me to put her up in the branches, but when I did, she usually got scared and wanted right back down.

That's one of the best parts of being a dad. Helping the child to have fun, having fun with them, but being the hero when they get scared.

or...at least until she's a teenager.

the good and the bad one...

the good and the bad one..., originally uploaded by J.Lee.Photo.

day 72
I really enjoy using mirrors for photos.

My daughter also really likes playing in them.

So it usually makes for great pictures.

We were at the mall today.

I try to take her at least every 2 sundays, and sometimes its every sunday because of the grocery store. It's a local one that is owned by American Wal-Mart.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/justinhuddleston/4961564884/

I stay focused on the tasks: McDonald's, ice-cream, groceries. That usually takes up several hours because my daughter finds things to play around with like mirrors.

a love affair?

a love affair?, originally uploaded by J.Lee.Photo.

day 69 of 365.
I have to come to terms with my addiction.
I am spending so much time on flickr. Hoping for explore, searching for views, comments, favorites.

It's a real problem. Time on facebook, twitter and other networking sites has vastly suffered from it. Every few hours, I check my email, facebook...and now..flickr.

I wonder- 'did anyone comment?", "Did anyone favorite something?"

Flickr has definitely changed photography. I come to flickr for inspiration for continuing this 365, for becoming a better photographer, and dare I say, a better person.

Ok. Maybe not a better person, but definitely a more creative photographer.

how did I not blog this last night?
for those who don't know bokeh is pleasant blurriness that appears in a picture.

i really liked this picture. It came out as I intended it. i think thats one of the signs of growth as a phtogapher. when you see the picture in your mind and you can capture it the way your mind sees it.

granted, i cant always do that, because I do think up some pretty crazy stuff.

but this is a simple, solid idea and easily executable. no photoshop, just color adjustment in processing.

The Old-Fashioned Way

The Old-Fashioned Way, originally uploaded by J.Lee.Photo.

day 67 of 365.
august 31, 2010.

I see this a lot in Brazil. I find it fascinating, but the local brazilians probably all think I'm crazy when I take pictures of it. I haven't really posted the pictures that I take of it, but today, it was the only shot that I got off.

This vacant lot is about a block from my apartment, and I walk through it to get to the shopping mall which you can see in the background. At the shopping mall is where I teach English in a language school.

The sky is clear. In fact, its almost always clear. Clouds in the morning are rare, and even more rare is rain at this time of the year.

We are entering a season called B-R-O, Bro which is September to December. All the months that end in the letters "BRO" in the portuguese language. Setembro, Outubro, Novembro, Dezembro.

That's when the temperature daily reaches a high of around 110-115. It's considered one of the hottest cities in Brazil. While it 110 doesn't seem unbearable, the thing that gets you is the lack of wind and efficient centralized air conditioning. Anyone wanna come visit me?

The doors we enter..

The doors we enter.., originally uploaded by J.Lee.Photo.

Nothing really to say about this picture. During the 365, I think it's good to think ahead to shots that you'd like to get in case you can't think of anything better. Today, day 66 was a difficult day. So, I pulled an idea out of the imaginary idea box.

Someone opening the door to the school at work. I asked the secretary to do it. She thought it was strange, but played along. It came out as expected, but is definitely just a simple shot.

I've found that I really like photographs of isolated parts of the body. Feet are a great shot to get whenever I run out of ideas. I've done it a time or two, but fortunately, I also had other things.

A quick look through my "favorites" in flickr will show you that I've favorited some feet shots.
